JAKARTA– “Geek” which often associated to someone who work in the field of IT and always have the connotation of a person who does not like socializing. It appears this time the term is not applicable in an event for geeks, GeekFest. This is the first Indonesian youth creativity and technology collaboration festival in Indonesia.

At the press conference, taking place on last Thursday (3/1) at SAE Institute, fX Senayan, Jakarta, Forum Web Anak Bandung (FOWAB), the initiator of GeekFest who is working together with Kibar Kreasi, announcing the implementation of GeekFest which will be held on March 31-April 1, 2011 at Sasana Budaya Ganesha (Sabuga), Bandung. In those 2 days, the event with the theme “GeekFest: Celebrate The New Rock Stars!” will bring out collaboration of geeks, not just from the field of IT, but also from music, film, game, and multimedia into one technology container.
“GeekFest is an arena that commits in supporting the nation’s young talents to step forward and displays Indonesia in the world stage. Now is the time for Indonesians youth to invent archipelago’s original creation. We want to show that Indonesia is not just known as a ‘factory’ of well-known foreign company, but we also can make our own product which can give Indonesia a good name,” says CEO Kibar Kreasi, Yansen Kamto.

In the upcoming GeekFest, geeks that involves are from artists and technology and digital activists from various communities in Jakarta, Bandung, Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Malang. They will be performing cross-genre collaboration, a mix of music, film, multimedia and technology. Not only that, GeekFest will also have entertainment on GeekFest stage which will be performing Jogja Hiphop Foundation, Bottlesmoker, Windyasari, Openlabs, Hellomotion, Saung Angklung Udjo, Hebring (Main Studios), Pet Shop Box, Homogenic, Ableton Live Indonesia User Group, Trah Project, Kepompong Gendut, Jogjaforce, iPhonesia, Movieholic, Riset Indie, Photon Project, and Midi Data.
“Through GeekFest, we want to show that Indonesian youth have a very big potential in the field of creative industry. There are many works by the nations’ youth that has been successful in international level, but have not yet heard, whereas in fact they are the real rock star, the ones that creates creative works with an international level,” says Yohan Totting from FOWAB.

This is the time for geeks to show their works and only in this event geeks are chosen as the new rock star. This event certainly gives an understanding to the public to appreciate people behind the curtain which will appear in front with creations that are never done before.
