JAKARTA – Conservation and art and cultural introduction effort has been done in many ways, one of them is like what is seen at Museum Tekstil Jakarta [Jakarta Textile Museum]. Himpunan Pengrajin Kain Tapis Lampung [Kain Tapis Lampung Craftsmen Association] and Lampung S organized Wastra [batik wraparound skirt] Lampung Exhibition with the theme of ‘Warisan Budaya Melintas Zaman [Cultural Heritage Crossing Times]’ and it’s officially opened on last Wednesday (3/7) by Mrs. Hj. Zulkifli Hasan as Advisor of Kain Tapis Lampung Craftsmen Association.

On the opening ceremony, attended by invitations who are art collectors, Komunitas Pencinta Wastra [Wastra Lovers Community] management and members, academicians, DKI Provincial Government officials and also Museum Tekstil Jakarta partners, are entertained by “Selamat Megou” dance, performed by Sanggar Tapis Berseri under the guidance of Mrs. Hj. Eva Diana Herman HN (Head of Dekranasda City of Bandar Lampung). Other than that, there is also a traditional bridegroom dress fashion show and also fashion show by Wastra Lampung artists. In this event there is also an awarding ceremony for Governor of Lampung Province, Mr. Drs. H. Sjachroedin ZP, S.H., for his initiative on revitalizing Wastra and Lampung’s culture. This award is given by representative of Lampung Sai and accepted by Head of Dinas Parekraf Lampung.

In his speech, Head of Museum Tekstil Jakarta Indra Riawan says that this exhibition is a realization of Museum Tekstil Jakarta 2012 program, and he hopes that through this exhibition people can be closer to the Traditional Wastra and the textile museum as a cultural educative institution which take part in strengthening the nation’s identity can be closer to the people.
In this exhibition, besides displaying collections from Museum Tekstil Jakarta, there are also several collections of Wastra from collectors, among them are: Mrs. Hj. Soraya Zulkifli Hasan, Mrs. Roslina Daan, Dr. Noorkarim’s family, Mrs. Caecil Papadimitriou, Mr. Hartono Soemarsono, Mrs. Ade Krisnaraga, Mrs. Asmoro Damais, Mrs. Judy Achjadi, Mrs. Hj. Sri Emiruddin, Mr. Raswan, Mr. Aan Ibrahim, Rumah Pesona Kain and Museum Negeri Provinsi Lampung. Those collections are filling up the main room and the special room of Museum Tekstil Jakarta. Visitors can buy Lampung specialty products and variety of Lampung cuisine that is available at the Selasar area of Museum Tekstil Jakarta.

Wastra Lampung Warisan Budaya Melintas Zaman Exhibition will take place from March 7 – 19, 2012, and will have a number of workshops and discussions. On March 8, there will be a discussion about the conservation of Wastra Lampung cultural values with Drs. H. Mawardi Harirama, M.Si. (Sultan Pangeran Pesirah di Puncak Nur), Drs. H. Anshari Kadir (Pangeran Paduka Sakti), Hj. Roslina Daan (Head of HPKTL/Pelestari Budaya Lampung) as speakers. On March 9-14, there will be a batik workshop with various of Lampung cultural inspirations, on March 10, there will be a making of sulam usus, a Lampung specialty handicraft workshop, and on March 11, there will be a ‘learn Tarian Lampung [Lampung Dance] for a day’. All events are free of charge, a rare opportunity to learn Lampung culture and directly from Lampung’s own experts.
Let us help conserve the Indonesian Archipelago’s Culture to inherit it to the future generation, before the culture is claimed by another country. A culture will continue to grow and will always preserved if all elements that involves in shaping it are all unite in protecting it.
